The School of Humanities and Journalism in Poznań has its own base in the very center of the city in close proximity of Citadel Park and the Old Market. The building was erected in the shape that refers to the redoubt of Saint Aldebert fortress, which was situated in the inner belt of the 19th century fortification of the city. The building is one of the most modern didactic buildings of the country.
Modern and comfortable The School boasts a comfortable base to teach more than 5000 full-time and extramural students. In the building that takes up more than 10000 square meters, there are 13 lecture halls, 23 workshop halls, 9 computer labs with the latest equipment and a multimedia lab equipped with necessary appliances and programming to make graphic projects. There is also a library with a reading room, a cafeteria and a professional gym. The building is fully ventilated and partially air conditioned. All the lectures, classes, workshops, conferences and academic meetings organized by our School are held at the School base.
Comfortable lecture halls In most of the lecture halls there is a computer with access to the Internet and the local network of our School, as well as, amplifying equipment. In every lecture hall there is a TV, DVD and Video set. In six lecture halls there are multimedia projectors. There are also a few portable multimedia sets that can be installed anywhere. Thanks to this equipment our lectors and lecturers may present their material in an electronic version.
School without barriers The handicapped, who usually face many architectural problems, may feel comfortable in our school. The building is build to bring comfort to the handicapped so that they can easily move about in their wheelchairs inside and outside the School. This is possible due to specially equipped lifts, toilets, installed driveways and handrails.
Integrated information network The School has an integrated information infrastructure that consists of 260 integrated computers. The wide stream connection allows for unrestricted access to the Internet from any computer in the School. The individual profile of each student and lecturer enables immediate access to his or her files regardless to any work station. Free access to computers Computer labs are mainly used for IT classes. Nevertheless, the students have free access to them six days of a week at any time the labs are not occupied. Wireless network Students present at the School and who have a laptop or palmtop may have a free access to the Internet with a speed of 54 Mb/s using hot spots conveniently situated. Modern computer labs The School has nine computer labs equipped with 207 Pentium IV computers, high class LCD monitors, laser printers, scanners and CD burners. Moreover, the School of Humanities and Journalism in Poznań, has two multimedia laboratories adopted to having computing graphics and multimedia classes. Sophisticated programmes All the computers at the School have the Windows 2000 Professional, Office XP,and Linux Suse operational systems. The computers in the labs have: Turbo Pascal, Borland Delphi 7, Borland C++, Builder, Borland C#, and data base Oracle 9. In the multimedia labs students have access to graphic programmes such nas: Correl Draw 11, Adobe Photoscop CS2, Adobe in Design, Macro-media Flash MX. Library and Reading Room The library and reading room are spacious, and there are about 100 comfortable places for independent study. The library is constantly enlarging its book collection gathering volumes from different areas: philosophy, sociology, law, economy, history, IT, pedagogy and culture studies. There are about 80 magazines and newspapers at students’ disposal among them numerous ones in foreign languages. The School of Humanities and Journalism in Poznań, has in its collection a complete edition of “Zeszyty Historyczne “ of the Paris “Kultura”. Free access to the greatest libraries According to the agreement signed by the School of Humanities and Journalism in Poznań with the Province Public Library, the Center of Promotion of Culture, Poznań’s Society of Friends of Science, and the Institute of Western Studies in Poznań, our students may have free access to the richest humanist book collection in the province of Wielkopolska. |
